Wine Savers and Stoppers

Wine Savers and Stoppers

Why use a wine saver or stopper?

There are several methods of wine preservation available when you do not finish a bottle from your monthly wine membership after opening. Once a bottle of wine is opened, the exposure to the air initiates the oxidation process. While a couple of hours of exposure is actually recommended, extended periods of time will alter the characteristics of the wine. The most common effect of extended oxidation is a muting of your cabernet sauvignon’s complex flavors and aromas. This will typically happen after 24 hours of the bottle being opened in the absence of any preservation efforts.

What can I do to save my wine?

While none of the techniques in this article will completely stop the oxidation process from happening, they can slow it down and buy you additional days to enjoy your Cabernet Sauvignon monthly membership wines as they were designed to be.

Wine Saver Vacuum Pump – These devices work by pumping out the air that is in the bottle and sealing the top with a specially designed cap that makes an audible pop once all of the air has been extracted. The amount of pumps required to extract all of the air depends on the amount of empty space left in the bottle. The use of The Cab Club Wine Saver Vacuum Pump can help preserve the complexities and integrity of the wines aromas and flavor profile for up to 3 days post opening. Our experts recommend enjoying the remaining wine within 48 hours.

Wine Stopper – This device is a simple solution for recorking your bottle of wine without having to struggle with attempting to insert the original cork. While this device does not extract any of the air that has already entered the bottle, it does help slow down the oxidation process by minimizing the circulation of new air throughout the bottle. The use of The Cab Club Silicon Wine Stopper can help preserve the original profile and aromatics of the wine for up to 2 days post opening. Our experts recommend enjoying the remaining wine within 24 hours.

The Cab Club Expert Tips

Seal it up - A wine saver or stopper is an inexpensive way to maximize the enjoyment of your Cabernet Sauvignon monthly wine membership. Nothing can stop the oxidation process, but we can make a world of difference by slowing it down. Additionally, those pesky fruit flies will certainly find their way into an unsealed bottle left out.

Cool it down – Temperature has a direct correlation to the speed of the reaction to oxygen. If you know that you will not be able to come back and finish that bottle, seal it up and stick it in the refrigerator to further decrease the oxidation process.
